Missionaries of the ChurchThe Rev. Dr. Lewin and Joyce Williams FamilyThe Rev. Dr. Lewin and Joyce Williams have been affiliated with Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church since 1993. They serve with the United Theological College of the West Indies (UTC) and the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands.The United Theological College is an ecumenical institution, which was dedicated on April 27, 1966 and formed by the cooperation of 10 denominations. It serves most of the Caribbean region including mainland territories such as Guyana, Belize, Suriname and Panama. The college is located in Kingston, Jamaica and offers a BA in Theology, MA in Theology, MA in Philosophy and is planning to offer a Ph. D. The Theological College and the Columbia Theological Seminary in Atlanta presently offer the Doctor of Ministry jointly. Dr. Lewin Williams teaches six courses in theology and serves in the administration as the Deputy President. As Deputy President he is the ecumenical officer, a position that gives him pleasure in seeing the growth of ministerial students in ecumenical awareness and intercultural sensitivity. His wife, Joyce, is a staff associate for public education for the United Church in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands. Her role is to ensure that the school boards are fully constituted and that the church is fully represented on these boards. Included in her responsibilities are fund raising activities, recruitment of teachers and responding to school requests. Lewin and Joyce were both born in Jamaica and are naturalized U.S. citizens. They have four children: Faith, John, Chantelle and Shani. They attend Webster United Church in Kingston. Box 136 Kingston 7, Jamaica E-mail address: is joylew@cwjamaica.com Farris McDaniel and Thelma GoodrumFarris McDaniel Goodrum was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in Africa where his parents served 21 years as missionaries. They came back from Africa in 1970 when he was still in high school.He has earned an undergraduate degree in music from the State University of West Georgia, a graduate degree in Christian Education from the Presbyterian School of Christian Education and a master's degree in music from Georgia State University. Farris went to Brazil in 1982 and completed a term of service at the Bible Institute of the North in Garanhuns where he met and married Thelma in 1987. They worked with the Theological Seminary of Fortaleza in northeast Brazil for a number of years and were transferred to the Seminary in Londrina in January 1997. He participated in a mission conference in Augusta in 1986 and returned in 1999 with his wife and their two sons, Michael and Joel to present a program during missions season. He described their work at the Theological Seminary of Londrina, a middle-sized city in the state of Parana in southern Brazil and charmed the audience at Reid when he sat at the piano and played some Brazilian songs. They stay busy with the work of the seminary. Farris teaches a course in Christian Education. He also teaches "Music in the Church" which involves the study of music in the worship service and in the overall life of the church. He directs the school choir of forty voices and a first year choir of thirty voices, He has a small group of bell ringers who are creating a sensation in Londrina as this is the first bell choir known in the city. Thelma enjoys working in the office of the Stated Clerk of the Independent Presbyterian Church. She has also reenrolled in English courses. The Goodrums have enjoyed becoming part of a church congregation. Farris plays the piano for worship services and directs the choir while Thelma helps with the training of Sunday school teachers.
