Our LogoOur logo combines the rich traditions of Reid Memorial and its history with the exciting, life-giving Spirit moving through our congregation. The logo is filled with symbolism. It features the Celtic Cross, long associated with the Presbyterian Church.
The dark red color to the cross suggests the bricks of our own church buildings, and in particular, the red brick cross on the pavement in our courtyard. More importantly, the red reminds of of Jesus' blood which was shed for all of humanity. The blue center symbolizes the fountain in the center of our cross, reminding us of the water Jesus Christ gives us which becomes, "A spring of water rushing up for eternal life" (Jn 4:14). While blue symbolizes peace in many cultures, water imagery fills both Old and New Testaments. Noah's world was cleaned by water, Moses' Isrealites were saved from the pursuing Egyptians by water, John the Baptist encouraged followers to go into the water to become spiritually clean. The sick became whole in the waters of Bethesda, and of course, Jesus himself offered the woman at the well living water. These are just a few instances, but they, among many others, remind us of the power God displays through water. The blue swirl represents water flowing from the fountain, actively spreading the Good News and God's love to the world. |
