Adult Ministry

God's ultimate goal for each one of us is that we become spiritually mature by becoming more and more like Christ in our thoughts, feelings and actions. At Reid Memorial Presbyterian Church, we are committed to each individual's spiritual formation and Christian discipleship.

While worship is the center of our life together as a congregation, the adult education and small group experiences are where people receive the teaching they need to grow in their faith in Jesus Christ, learn more about the Christian life, and become connected to others in our community of faith.

We strive to nurture, support and encourage adults in their spiritual journey towards God in creative and structured programs of study and fellowship including:

  • Super Suppers: A series of dinners hosted in homes with 7, 8 or 9 folks with a mix of ages and gifts gather for a great meals and discussion of Christian topics. New groups form every quarter. Contact Jeff Futrelle for more information.
  • Adult Sunday School: A variety of classes is offered on Sundays from 9:50 until 10:45 a.m. More information on Sunday School can be found in the “Outreach > Sunday School” section of this website.
  • Reid Memorial CSI = “Come, Seek, Inquire”: A four week series of New Member Classes also open to seekers or anyone desiring to learn more of the Presbyterian Faith. One hour sessions are offered in the Library during the 9:50 Sunday School hour. The series will cycle several times during the year. Primary contact: Rev. Boyd Lien and the Church Office.
  • Tuesday Nights: Boyd Lien has Bible studies in the Fellowship Hall during the Fall and Winter. Call the church office for more details. He also frequently has interesting and enlightening classes on varying subjects
  • Wednesday Nights: After diner, Woody Belangia frequently heads literature studies. Call the church office for details.

Bible Studies

Jane Howington Bible Study groups
Mrs. Jane Howington leads the Women's Bible Study groups. She teaches the same lesson four times a week. Three are ladies only, one is coed and two have free nursery services. The study groups are open to anyone interested. Classes start in September and continue through April. This is an inter-denominational group.

Meetings are Tuesdays from 7:45-9 a.m. for ladies only and from 9:45-11 a.m. for women 35 and under at Jane's house, 2312 Walton Way. The nursery at Reid Memorial opens at 9:30.

The women of the church also meet Wednesdays from 10-11:30 a.m. in the choir room at Reid Memorial and from 6:15-7:30 p.m. in the Emmaus Class room at Reid Memorial (coed). Free Nursery is provided for both of these classes. The women only group meets again Thursdays from 10-11:30 a.m. in the choir room at Reid Memorial.

Wednesday Programs

After a family-style dinner for all ages, adults can take advantage of the outstanding classes which follow while the children have their own classes. Teens now meet on Sunday afternoons.

Jane Howington leads a Bible study in the Emmaus Sunday School room, Boyd Lien has a class about Dietrich Bonhoffer, Woody Belangia's book group meets in the Mary Read Room and there is a Faithbooking class where you can put your life of faith in a creative scrapbook.

The Chancel Choir continues to rehearse on Wednesday evenings under the direction of Larry Abernathy.

Sports Activities

Reid Memorial also offers a series of athletic activities for adults of all ages.
